F4F
Synopsis
In F4F, a person engages in a frantic effort to distance themselves from their own shadow. When exhaustion from this futile flight forces them to sit down, the shadow inevitably returns. The dynamic immediately shifts: the shadow now rises and moves away, signaling that it is the shadow’s turn to flee, and the person must follow.
Creators’ Statement: The Necessity of Reunion
Here, the shadow represents the self, from which one futilely tries to escape—a flight that is fundamentally impossible. This pointless attempt to run from oneself inevitably leads to the necessity of reuniting with the self, as this is the only path to true human survival.
The film deliberately avoids following a clear, traditional narrative line. Our aim is not to convey a rigid spiritual message, but rather to create a semi-abstract space that engages the viewer with what they observe. This structure allows for personal experience and interpretation, so that each viewer can discover within the film what they themselves truly need.
Production Insight
The cycle of pursuit and rest in F4F is perfectly realized through our hand-drawn, low-tech method. The visual simplicity of the person and their shadow ensures that the profound metaphor—the internal struggle to accept the self—remains the central focus of the animation.
